The Best Way to Learn a Language

First off, I doubt there is one universal best way to learn a language... But there are a few that work pretty well for almost everyone. I myself have spent a lot of time dealing with foreign languages...since 1981 to be precise. I've probably tried everything out there on the subject of learning a foreign language.
- I studied them in school...
- I studied them at college...
- I used workbooks...
- I read books...
- I did writing exercises...
- I used language software...
- I used foreign language CDs...
- I listened to native speakers...
- I watched TV and DVDs in the language I wanted to learn...
- I spoke to and had conversations with native speakers...
- I even moved to a foreign country and married a local...
I now deal with 2 completely different foreign languages on a regular basis (French and German) plus two dialects (Swiss German and Alsatian)... In the process I have learned A LOT about the best ways to learn a language... Like how to have fun learning a foreign language... And how to learn a foreign language faster... And that's what this whole section of Thought-Detective.com is about... Hopefully it will help you manage your language learning with less stress and more peace...
