The Best Way to Learn a Language

First off, I doubt there is one universal best way to learn a language...

But there are a few that work pretty well for almost everyone.

I myself have spent a lot of time dealing with foreign languages...since 1981 to be precise.

I've probably tried everything out there on the subject of learning a foreign language.

• I studied them in school...
• I studied them at college...
• I used workbooks...
• I read books...
• I did writing exercises...
• I used language software...
• I used foreign language CDs...
• I listened to native speakers...
• I watched TV and DVDs in the language I wanted to learn...
• I spoke to and had conversations with native speakers...
• I even moved to a foreign country and married a local...

I now deal with 2 completely different foreign languages on a regular basis (French and German) plus two dialects (Swiss German and Alsatian)...

In the process I have learned A LOT about the best ways to learn a language...
